Beebe fends off GCT
October 19, 2007

PARAGOULD - The Beebe Badgers held off the winless Greene County Tech Eagles 35-18 in a 5A East conference game Friday night.

The Badgers (7-1, 4-1) scored two touchdowns in the first quarter.

Luke Gardner got the first one on a 3-yard run midway through the opening stanza. Roger Glaude made all the extra points on the night, and kicked the score to 7-0.

James Anderson got the other first quarter touchdown on a 4-yard run, making it 14-0 with 2:04 left in the period.

The Eagles (0-8, 0-5) got on the board with time running out in the first. Kyle Davis ran in from 3 yards out. The extra point was blocked, leaving the score at 14-6 with 15 seconds left in the first.

Beebe scored on another short touchdown run, this time a 4-yard run from Chris Blundell, with 2:04 left in the half to make it 21-6.

GCT capitalized on a Badger error with time running out in the half. A bad snap on a punt attempt gave the Eagles the ball at the Beebe 17-yard line with 6 seconds remaining in the half. That was all that quarterback Seth Tripod would need to find Tyler Williams in the end zone as time expired, making the halftime score 21-12.

After a scoreless third quarter, scoring resumed with 6:58 left in the final period when Beebe quarterback snuck in from 2 yards away. Glaude's kick made it 28-12.

The Eagles answered when Tripod and Tyler Williams connected again on a 10-yard touchdown pass with 3:50 left in the game. The score stayed at 28-18 after another failed two-point try.

Beebe's Billy Griswold returned the Eagles' ensuing onside kick 40 yards to the GCT 10. Four plays later, Sammy Williams iced the game on a 2-yard run with 1:06 left to play.

Tripod led all rushers with 92 yards on 7 carries for the Eagles. Sammy Williams grinded out 90 yards on 28 carries for Beebe.

Beebe vs. Blytheville big in 5A East
October 12, 2007

By David Wallace
Hootens.com

BEEBE - John Shannon still doesn't know what it's like to lose as a head coach, and Beebe (6-0, 3-0 in 5A East) hasn't seen anything like it in 21 years.

The Badgers are unbeaten in the former Cabot assistant's debut season, and 6-0 for the first time since 1986. They finished 9-1, 5-1 in the 5AA-South that year, and lost to conference champion Pulaski Robinson in the playoffs 21-6.

Beebe's battle for the conference championship with unbeaten Blytheville week 7 is bigger than any game anyone can remember at Bro Irwin Stadium. It's homecoming, and Athletic Director Jerry Jordan estimates an overflow crowd of 4,000 to 5,000.

They won't all be Badger boosters. Jordan says Blytheville is sending seven buses to support the Chickasaws. Until this year, Blytheville had gone 6-0 only one year since 1973. In 1998, the Chicks lost their first game 35-34 to Forest City week 7.

Beebe loves its new coach, 4-0 start
September 27, 2007

By David Wallace
Hootens.com

BEEBE - Fans of the Beebe Badgers are finding new reasons every week to like John Shannon. The first-year coach who has guided the Badgers to an impressive 4-0 record showed his humanitarian side this week. He and the other coaches organized the preparation of food for the family of junior team member Larey Six, who's 10-year old brother Tristan was killed Sunday in a four wheeler accident.

Beebe Booster Club President Bruce Pursell says Shannon has been active in every aspect of the program. "We love him. He's winning, but it's more than that," says Pursell, who adds the club plans a big tailgate party for the Batesville game November 2nd.

Before that, the homecoming game Oct. 12 with Blytheville, potentially a battle of unbeatens, is expected to swell Erwin Stadium beyond its capacity. A new bleacher section for the band should clear about 200 additional seats, but those will be gobbled up quickly by frenzied Beebe fans. They have cottoned quickly to Shannon's rush-oriented approach after some initial misgivings.

"It was a real shock going from that spread (run by former coach Cam Prock) to this," Purcell says. "But it's pretty cool when they need three yards, and you know they can get it any time." Purcell has noticed more businesses adorning their store-front signs with messages about the Badgers.

Beebe athletic director Jerry Jordan traces the buzz surrounding the program to the comeback from a 41-12 deficit at Vilonia to win 47-41 week 3. Long a hotbed of support, Beebe is seeing even larger crowds this year. Jordan says the Vilonia game brought the largest gate of his four years as AD. He says the players bought into the change in philosophy from the beginning.

Shannon re-instituted two-a-day practices and emphasized the trench-warfare football he learned under Mike Malham Jr. at Cabot. Hootens.com picks Beebe to go to 5-0 this week by beating North Pulaski.

Beebe blanks Paragould, 35-0

PARAGOULD - The Beebe Badgers took the Williams and Williams show on the road to Paragould in a 5A East conference game with the Paragould Rams Friday night. Sammy Williams rushed for 93 yards on 16 carries and scored three touchdowns, while Kyle Williams scored the other two in a 35-0 rout of the Rams (1-3, 0-1).

Sammy started the scoring for Beebe (4-0, 1-0) on a 1-yard plunge with 6:53 left in the opening quarter. Roger Glaude, a perfect 5-of-5 on the night, kicked the extra point to make it 7-0.

Kyle got his first with 8:55 remaining in the second period on a 5-yard run to make it 14-0.

Beebe got in the endzone one more time before halftime when Sammy ran in from 2 yards away with 10 seconds on the clock.

The Badgers continued the Williams onslaught in the third quarter. Sammy sprinted 50 yards for Beebe's fourth touchdown, and Kyle turned on the mercy clock with 4:09 left in the third on a 3-yard run.

"We were worried about a let down after last Friday night," said Beebe first year head coach John Shannon. "Our guys fought hard. We don't have a team of superstars. They have a real workman-like ethic. I'm proud of them."

Beebe hits the ground running

BEEBE - The Beebe Badgers successfully transitioned from the Spread attack of former coach Cam Prock to the Dead T of new coach and Beebe graduate, John Shannon in a 21-0 win over Greenbrier. Shannon, who brought the straight-ahead attack with him from Cabot, was pleased with the first-half effort. The Badgers scored on drives of 13 and 15 plays in the first half but scored on only one of seven possessions in the second half. "We want those 15-play drives," Shannon says. "It's just hard for our players to adjust to being physical on every down." Shannon served as offensive coordinator for Cabot coach Mike Malham from 1999-2006. In vintage Cabot fashion, the Badgers converted three fourth downs in the first half, including a fourth-and-six at the Greenbrier 45. "We kind of like to hang onto the football," Shannon says. "(The other team) can't score if they don't have the football."

Shannon will remember his first game as a head coach, feeling goosebumps when he walked in front of a capacity crowd at his old high school. "It was a scary moment walking out there wondering, 'Oh, I hope we can do this,'" Shannon says. "But it was very gratifying to get that first one."... Beebe's defense also had to adjust to a new 5-2 scheme, but Shannon says that unit played without a hiccup. "They got to the ball real well, tackled real well," Shannon says. Greenbrier could not run against Beebe and passed on all but six downs in the second half. … Senior running back James Anderson (5-11, 170) played some after missing all of preseason practice with a broken collarbone. Anderson, whom Shannon calls Beebe's best overall athlete, caught a 36-yard pass and scored on a 1-yard TD run in the fourth quarter. Shannon says Anderson will be back at cornerback as well as rotating in a running back Week 2 (9/7) at Lonoke. … Shannon respects the Jackrabbits' speed and athleticism. "They like to get it to (senior wide receiver Ryan Hobson) a lot," Shannon says. "He's a player, but they've got a bunch of those."

Badgers shut out GCT, 30-0
October 21, 2005

PARAGOULD - Wesley Lamb completed 26 of 36 passes for 240 yards and a touchdown as the Beebe Badgers shut out the Greene County Tech Eagles (0-5, 1-5-2 AAAA East) 30-0 at Eagle Stadium.

The touchdown pass was the first touchdown of the game. Wesley Lamb found Nathan Lamb end the end-zone for a 12-yarder. The pair teamed up again for the two-point conversion to make the score 8-0 with 7:56 left in the opening stanza.

Beebe (6-2, 4-1 AAAA East) doubled its score before the first period was completed. Eric Holland ran in from 4 yards away and Ricardo Mack scored two more points with :57 left in the first quarter.

Holland scored again with 3:44 left in the half on a 3-yard touchdown run. James Anderson kicked the extra point to make the score 23-0.

The Badgers' final touchdown came on a 5-yard run from Jacob Money. Anderson's kick set the final score.

"I thought our defense played extremely well," said Beebe Coach Cam Prock. "It's probably the best they have played all year. Our middle linebacker Eric Holland and our nose guard Evan Hallmark did a super job for us."

Lamb led Beebe's ground game as well with 57 yards on 9 carries. Money was the game's leading receiver with 94 yards and 11 receptions.

Beebe drubs Paragould, 41-7

PARAGOULD - Wesley Lamb threw for 157 yards and two touchdowns as the Beebe Badgers upended the Paragould Rams 41-7 in the AAAA East conference opener for both teams.

Beebe (3-1, 1-0) wasted no time lighting up the scoreboard. Ryan Longo took the opening kickoff 83 yards for the Badgers' first score. Wesley Lamb passed to Nathan Lamb for the two-point conversion, making the score 8-0.

Paragould (1-2-1, 0-1) drove to the Beebe 26 yard line on its first possession. That's when Jacob Money grabbed an interception for Beebe and stopped the drive. Two plays later, Ricardo Mack sprinted 84 yards for the next Beebe touchdown. Money ran in the two-pointer, and Beebe led 16-0 with 5:01 left in the first quarter.

Wesley Lamb's first touchdown pass came with 8:12 left in the half when he threw 18 yards to Nathan Lamb. James Anderson's kick made the score 23-0.

Eric Holland caught Wesley Lamb's second touchdown pass, a 55-yard strike with 5:40 left in the half. The extra point was no good, making the halftime score 29-0.

Money scored on a 29-yard run with 2:40 left in the third quarter, making the score 35-0 and turning on the mercy clock for the remainder of the game.

Beebe's backup quarterback, Charlie Spakes, ran in from 7 yards out with 7:20 remaining in the game and scored the Badgers' final points.

Paragould averted the shutout with 1:31 left to play. Chris Stidham threw a 37 yard touchdown pass to Randy Davis, and Shawn Brummett kicked the extra point to set the final score.

"I am proud of the way they played," said Beebe Coach Cam Prock. "Re just ran our regular stuff that we always run and our guys made the plays. On a different night, things might turn out differently. Things were just going our way."

Wesley Lamb's 157 yards passing were completed on 12 of 19 attempts. Holland caught 3 of the passes for 81 yards. Mack gained 96 yards on only 3 carries.

Paragould handles Beebe, 28-6
September 26, 2003

By David Grim
NEARsports.com

PARAGOULD - The Paragould Rams scored 21 of their 28 points in the first half, en route to a 28-6 victory over the visiting Beebe Badgers. It was the AAAA-East opener for both teams.

The Rams (3-1, 1-0) got their first score on a four yard run from quarterback Zach Noel. Alex Brummett kicked his first of four PAT's to make it 7-0.

Running back Seth Mitchell scored next for the Rams on a 17 yard sprint to the end zone, giving the Paragould a 14-0 lead.

Beebe defensive back Justin Payne recovered a Ram fumble at the Paragould 49 to set up the Badgers' only score. Quarterback Jake McIlwain connected with Nick Taylor for 14 yard touchdown with 1:10 left in the half. Beebe (1-3, 0-1) missed the PAT, leaving the score 14-6.

The Rams made the most of the time left before intermission. Paragould marched 66 yards in eight plays, and capped the drive with a 15 yard toss from Noel to Mitchell, setting the halftime score at 21-6.

Paragould's last touchdown came on the opening drive of the second half. The Rams launched a time consuming 87 yard drive on 16 plays. Noel scored from the one yard line with 3:28 left in the third quarter.

Beebe would threaten to score in the fourth quarter. The Badgers used the remainder of the third stanza to drive 61 yards to the Paragould four, before stalling out with 10:29 left in the game.

"We did something we hadn't been doing all year," said Paragould head coach Brian Carter. "Our offensive line did a really good job protecting our quaterback so we could run our offense."

Mitchell led the Rams ground game, rushing 12 times for 101 yards. McIlwain completed 9 of 22 Badger passes for 102 yards.
