Forrest City manhandles Osceola
September 19, 2003

OSCEOLA - The visiting Forrest City Mustangs from Class AAAAA dominated both sides of the ball Friday night, beating the Class AAA Osceola Seminoles, 28-6.

The Seminoles (1-2) scored their only points on their opening possession, driving 79 yards in 13 plays. Quarterback Evin Moore scored on a one yard keeper with 6:57 left in the first quarter.

The two defenses took over the game until late in the second quarter. Forrest City's Kenyate Chism broke the monotony with a 59 yard punt return to the Osceola 14 yard line. Three plays later, Demarcus Sinclair scored his first of three touchdowns on a six yard run with 4:24 left in the half. Kicker John Scott Carroll made his first of four PAT's to give the Mustangs the lead for good, 7-6.

A Seminole fumble set up the next Mustang touchdown just before halftime. Quarterback Ben Horton threw a 26 yard strike to Sinclair with 1:08 left before intermission.

Sinclair scored his last touchdown on the opening drive of the second half. Sinclair capped a 10 play, 52 yard drive with a five yard touchdown run.

The Mustangs (2-1) added one more touchdown with :32 left in the game. Andrew Embry plunged over from the one yard line to set the final score.

"Our kids just lined up and hit them in the mouth over and over and over," said Forrest City head coach Donnie Willis. "They didn't get discouraged when bad things happened. That shows their character."

"In that first drive Osceola made," said Forrest City defensive coordinator Stan Sartin, "we weren't playing Mustang football. You take out that one drive and that whole ball game belonged to us."

Osceola head coach Clinton Gore had little to say after the game. "They were a little bit better football team than we were," said Gore. "We made some dumb mistakes and they beat us."

Sinclair rushed 22 times for 101 yards. Both teams open up conference play next week with Osceola hosting Harrisburg and Forrest City traveling to Jonesboro.
