Mountain Home in same spot as a year ago
October 11, 2007

MOUNTAIN HOME - Mountain Home (1-4-1, 1-2 in 6A East) didn't get its first win until week 6, but Coach Shane Patrick says last year proved that scenario keeps the Bombers in the playoff hunt.

Mountain Home sported the same 1-2 record going into week 7 a year ago and ended up as the conference's No. 1 seed in the playoffs. The Bombers tied for first with Marion, West Memphis and Jacksonville. Their finish in the top two in points score and their win over West Memphis earned them the tiebreaker as the No. 1 seed from the East.

This year, the 24-7 win over 1-5 Jonesboro stopped the playoff door from slamming in Mountain Home's face. "You're going to have to win a minimum of four conference games," Patrick says. "There a little light there, there's a crack in the door that we could still get in."

Patrick says the offensive line picked it up in the Jonesboro game after not playing well earlier in the year. One senior, right tackle Andrew Alexander (6-2, 222), starts alongside two sophomores and two juniors.

Senior tailback Frankie Masotto (6-0, 166) rushed 19 times for 151 yards, scored a touchdown and had another 50-yard TD called back against Jonesboro. Junior fullback Chase Walker (5-8, 195), the Bombers leading rusher, added 145 yards and two TDs last week.

Mountain Home has two long trips to east Arkansas left on the schedule, a trek to Marion week 7 and one to Forest City week 9. The Bombers play host to West Memphis week 8 and finish the regular season at Searcy.
